Palm Desert

The golfer's paradise in the center of the Coachella Valley

Welcome to Palm Desert

Located right in the center of the Coachella Valley, the summer months get very hot in the Palm Desert. This is just one of the reasons that the area is popular with snowbirds. They divide their time living in the northern states in the summer and move back to Palm Desert the rest of the year.

Another big draw for residents is golf. One of the biggest golfing destinations in the country, Palm Desert features 16 golfing communities with private courses and clubhouses for residents to enjoy. There are 37 golf courses in the city including both public and private courses.

What to Love

  • Plenty of sunshine year-round and mild winter weather
  • Luxury resort-style condos, homes, and estates
  • Some of the country's best-golfing facilities
  • Gourmet cuisine and the finest accommodations
  • Shop from some of the world's best brands and designers

Local Lifestyle

The city of Palm Desert is a golfer's paradise, you may not know that it is a shopper's paradise as well. There are countless high-end stores and shops, many dining options ranging from a quick bite to the finest gourmet cuisine, and there are activities. There is no need to be bored here. Luxury condominium communities, single-family homes, and huge estate homes can be found here. In addition to the golfing communities here, there are 92 non-golf communities. All of the communities feature lush foliage and finely manicured lawns.

Dining, Entertainment, & Shopping

The community clubhouses offer exclusive dining of the highest quality. You can also choose something new like La Spiga Ristorante Italian or visit Le Basil for Thai-Vietnamese fusion cuisine. But for a truly first-rate dining experience, visit Jillian's for a private and romantic European-style dinner. You could also grab a drink at BabaLoo Lounge, or check the events calendar to see when to catch a live show.

When it is time to do some shopping, you will not be disappointed. Find everything that you could want or need in Palm Desert's trendy and posh shopping centers. Many of them are centrally located and easily accessible on Highway 111, the unofficial Coachella Valley retail corridor. Highway 111 lines up with El Paseo through Palm Desert and anything you do not find on the highway you will likely find on El Paseo, the fashion district of Palm Desert. While you are out, be sure to check out The Shops of Palm Desert, The President's Plaza East and West, and the Palms to Pines shopping center for an array of unique boutique shops and department stores with designer threads. Those should get you a nice start on your shopping list, and do not forget El Paseo Fashion Week.

Things to Do

Get out and enjoy the amazing California weather and find some activities to keep you busy. The community clubhouses offer tennis courts, swimming pools, and golf to keep you active, and several feature fitness centers too. At Civic Center Park you will find Palm Desert's largest park, offering tennis courts, soccer fields, a picnic area, and a pavilion for outside concert events. Take a hike on the Homestead Trailhead and enjoy three miles of wildlife and nature.

The Palm Desert Aquatic Center is the place to go to beat the heat. They offer three pools, water slides, and a splash pad. Have a learning experience at the Living Desert Zoo and Garden. Explore the more than 1,000 acres of desert ecosystem and cactus gardens.
